SUPERMAN II - RECONSTRUCTED SPECULATION [introduction]

Later this year, Warner Home Video will release Superman II: The Version You've Never Seen (aka The Richard Donner Cut) onto DVD.

Over 75% of this new version of the film (supervised by Superman The Movie Special Edition editor Michael Thau) will consist of footage filmed for Superman II by director Richard Donner in 1977. Including approximately forty-five minutes of footage that has never been seen by the public before.

But what is to be done about the scenes for Superman II that Richard Donner was unable to complete? Could they possibly be recreated to Donner's original vision using a combination of the existing Richard Lester footage (including trims), new live-action and model footage, and digital effects?

In the course of this highly speculative article, we'll examine which scenes Donner didn't complete, and, through the use of illustrative images, attempt to show how each of the missing sequences from the 1977 script could be completed for the new edition of the film, using a variety of traditional and modern-day film-making techniques.
