"SUPERMAN II"
Shooting Script by
TOM MANKIEWICZ
18th April 1977
REPRISE:
Highlights from the first film, ending with Superman thrusting the XK101
missile into outer space, and the missile exploding, releasing General
Zod, Ursa and Non from the Phantom Zone.
Its possible that this effects sequence was completed
for the original conclusion of Superman The Movie, as the decision to
change the ending was taken late in the day. If so, that footage can be
reinstated.
If not, however, this sequence will require some new special effects footage
of the missile flying through space, to link into the existing Phantom
Zone explosion from the released version of Superman II.
Perhaps begin with a few shots of Superman hurling the missile into space.

Time-lapse shots of the XK101 missile hurtling though several
universes (as per Tom Mankiewicz's Superman The Movie screenplay). Model/CGI
rocket composited with space background.
Examples:

New effects as the missile explodes, sending out a huge
shock wave.
Examples:

Then cut to the existing theatrical footage, as the shock wave shatters
the Phantom Zone, releasing the villains.

New voiceovers by Terence Stamp and Sarah Douglas.

Incorporate a new background plate, replacing the shot of the Moon, to
show that the villains are in a different galaxy to the Earth's.
Example:
NEW TITLE SEQUENCE utilising Oxford Scientific footage.
