>>THURSDAY 31st GLENN FORD HAS PASSED AWAY. Glenn Ford has passed away at the age of 90. I haven't seen many of his pictures, but he always came across as a wonderful, down-to-earth person in interviews. He lived an interesting life, not only as an actor, he served in WW2, where he was captured by the Nazis but managed to break free. I'll always remember him as Pa Kent, the man who gives Superman his nobility - without Smallville, Superman The Movie would not be one of my favourite films. Glenn Ford brought dignity and humility to Pa Kent, he's the at the heart of the emotional core of Superman. Thanks Glenn, you'll always be my Pa Kent.

SIEGEL AND SHUSTER The Ilya Salkind Company has release a few more details on the biographical picture: SIEGEL & SHUSTER ...will be The New Kind of Event Mega Film for the 21st Century. The gripping story of Superman creators Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel mixes their "down to Earth struggles", similar to films like Ray and Walk the Line, with out-of-this-world action fantasy sequences from the comic book universe. Initially set against the backdrop of the hard-luck realities of the 1930's, it culminates in an epic dramatic ending in 1978. It is a story of triumph and tragedy, fiction clashing with reality, of fame and fortune won then lost then won again. These are two passionate originals, partners, but also friends, who battled the odds to bring their visionary imagination to the world, and change modern culture forever. Co-written by the nephew of Joe Shuster, Warren Shuster Peary, and Rick Palacioz, the movie will combine traditional film with new state of the art technologies to break visual and uncharted boundaries that will allow the audience to participate in the vivid, spectacular fantasies of these two creative juggernauts. Interesting to note that the film ends in 1978...that can only mean one thing ;) Wasn't it in 1978 that the creators finally get recognised for their efforts, not just a screen credit but also financial reward by the studio, which the Salkinds pressured them to do?

>>WEDNESDAY 2nd SUPERMAN II DONNER CUT POSTER? At Comic Con, this keychain (holographic) was handed out to some:
Looks like it could be the poster for the Donner Cut.
NEW SUPERMAN II IMAGES To whet your appetites, here's a preview of what's to come at Capedwonder in September: Need I say anymore?
Is that Superman flying to the Fortress but where does it fit in the film?
I've updated the What Donner shot article with these pics.
>>TUESDAY 1st ILYA SALKIND ON DONNER'S COMIC CON COMMENTS Ilya Salkind told me his feelings on Donner's Comic Con comments, "I'm hurt by what he says, firstly, my father was POLISH not Hungarian. Secondly, if Superman The Movie bombed, there would not have been a Superman 2, we would've been bankrupted, and the only way Dick could've done it was if Warners bought us out." I asked him about Donner's Superman 2, "We were rewriting the script for both films whilst shooting it, we would've rescripted the Superman 2 script with Donner after the premiere of one." What about Lester claiming that the Diner sequence was his? "I can't speak for Richard Lester, but we could've cut it out and reshot it but we didn't because it's a good scene. I met Tom Mankiewicz at the Superman Returns premiere, I told him to tell Dick why he's spreading these lies." Donner hasn't commented yet. Ilya Salkind will be in Newsweek - hits newstands on 7th August. Watch out for the Superman 2 interview with Ilya later this month. I'm working on other interviews, but can't reveal who they are because they need to be confirmed and the scheduling is out of my hands, you can guess who one of them is, though. I hope both Donner and Ilya can sort this out because life's too short.
