FROM THE ILYA SALKIND ARCHIVE...

When I first started doing this website, I knew very little about the Salkinds, and then when I started researching all the problems on Superman 2, I grew to dislike them as producers. I put it down lack of maturity on my part and maybe believing everything I read in the media. As soon as I started researching for Water Under The Bridge article; I finally went back and researched further, and I started to really respect the Salkind company, their ambitions as independant producers to produce big budget films in the 70s and 80s was a risk, but a worthwhile dream; considering you didn't have a studio on your back, and if the film was successful, you'd reap the profits.

Although, the Salkinds never really reached the Superman The Movie heights in the 80s and 90s; you got to give it to them, they had a pair of balls, but I don't agree that firing Donner was the right thing to do :(

Ilya has visited the site and loves it, unfortunately, he won't be able to get in touch with us immediately 'cos he's in Macedonia producing Alexander The Great. Hopefully, he'll be in touch with us soon to give his thoughts on the site and the like.

He wanted to share a photo of his dad on the Superman set; you can find it here

A little bird tells me that superheros and Salkinds will return ;)

DONNER SUPERMAN 2 CAMPAIGN...WITH A DIFFERENCE

Yes, we have another campaign, this one has a different strategy: The plan is to send all the letters on one day, June 19, 2004. To find out more about this, please click here

Warner Bros. are well aware of the demand for a Donner Superman 2, so I don't know if this campaign will add anything or provoke some action. I honestly think we'll NEVER see the Donner cut scenes back in the film officially.

I'm glad that Superman 2 is getting a lot of attention; a hot topic judging by the emails I'm getting.

SUPERMAN MINI-SITE

Seang, the Superman 1 and 2 animator has launched his own site dedicated to his excellent film, soon to be films, once Superman 2 The Donner animated movie is completed.

Superman 2 animated movie is still in production, but for good reason; it's a much bigger project than the first film. I've seen a good portion of it and I think you guys are going to love it, the animation is a major step forward.

WE'RE BACK

A major technical problem these past few days but we're back!

PLANS FOR SUPERMAN 2 DVD?

No! According to

Warner Bros. who participated on an on-line chat yesterday at hometheaterforum. It was expected! But, we'll continue to push for it; we must continue to show interest.
WB are asking the HomeTheaterForum membership about titles they wish to see as a 2 disc special edition. Superman 2 has cropped up a few times in the thread.

I offered this:

Superman 2 disc ONE: theatrical cut, remastered picture and sound in 5.1
disc TWO: deleted scenes inc. Donner unused footage as a supplement.

Forget about a recut, we'll never see it officially. Legally, Donner doesn't have a right to create his own cut unless all the parties, that includes the Salkinds, to agree. Then we have Marlon Brando...! He'll want a slice of the pie if his scenes are inserted into the film! But if shown outside of the film? Depends on the contract he signed.
