FRIDAY 26th RICHARD LESTER TALKS HELP! This is a great 12 minute radio interview with Richard Lester talking about Help! and 60s British cinema. What is telling is, and not a surprise, he finds it extremely difficult to watch his past works and his distaste for shooting films.
FRIDAY 12th CHRISTOPHER REEVE DVD - CLIP As promised, here is a clip from the forthcoming Christopher Reeve: Hope in Motion DVD
FRIDAY 5th ILYA SALKIND Who does interviews on a Sunday; it's a rest day, right? Church, scrabble with the family, the family roast, etc. Ilya always keeps his appointments, he maybe late and, when he is, he calls to let you know he will be late, but he does make a concerted effort to call on the day promised. There are not many people in Hollywood who would give up a few hours on a Sunday to talk. Some will never change their stance on the Salkinds, and will forever label them as miscreants whenever Superman 2 is mentioned, but there are too many oblique circumstances to aportion blame on anyone in particular. We spent some time talking about Superman 3 for the forthcoming interview, and it reminded me of when I was watching Superman 3 and listening to his commentary at his place, he was watching my reaction to the film. It was quite surreal. I never thought I'd be in the same room with the producer of one of my favourite films. Funny how things turn out. He annouced his latest project, which is on fast track, The Lunatic Fringe. He labelled it as one of the best script he's read. He's also buoyed by a resurgance in popularity in his previous works: The Light at the Edge of the World and Christopher Columbus: The Discovery, the latter might see a new special edition DVD, one which Ilya seems eager to do, to shed light on the truth behind the production. Superboy season 2 is a possibility now, the first season sold well. I'm eager to see The Trial, produced by Ilya's grandfather and directed by Orson Welles. It's not out on DVD - why? Stay tuned, the Superman 3 interview should be done by the end of the month.
NEW SUPERMAN MOVIE BOOK I vaguely remember communicating with Jake Rossen about a Superman book, though I can't remember anything about our conversations, anyway, it's finished and is to be published early next year: Superman vs. Hollywood: How Fiendish Producers, Devious Directors, and Warring Writers Grounded an American Icon. CHRISTOPHER REEVE DVD Timothy M. Maggiani: This intimate portrait focuses on Chriss remarkable recovery of movement and his constant fight to fully regain his mobility. Following Chris closely over many months of treatment and public campaigning for funds for stem cell research, this film was completed shortly before his death and shows his struggle to keep his hope alive. Sadly, Chris died before his most fervent wish could come to pass. What emerges through this film is a portrait of an intelligent, determined, candid and outspoken man who was able to maintain his sense of humor in the face of adversity. His inspiring personality will shine through as you follow his unpredictable, emotional journey.
Release Date: 6th November 2007. We hope to have some video clips for you soon.
TUESDAY 2nd MESSAGE BOARD MOVE - FINAL Alex has kindly set up our new message board here. You'll need to re-register to use it. I spoke to Ilya Salkind recently, I'll talk more about that as soon as I've written it up.
