McG ALREADY GUILTY? It's official, McG is the director of the next Superman movie. I've been
chewing on the news for the last few days. I've only seen Charlie's Angels,
which was horrible, but McG is still unknown in my book. At the moment we do not know what the circumstances are surrounding this appointment, so I think we should wait to hear from McG. He might do a total u-turn and make a totally serious piece. At the moment, McG's appointment is disappointing, I would never have considered him for the job. With the exception of Donner, it's hard to think of a suitable candidate, although Ahem's choice was, and maybe still is, Martin Scorcese. Previous screenplays and storylines look to have been banished forever
into the Phantom Zone, so where does the story go? Let's forget about
the Kryptonite, I want to see something new and refreshing yet still have
the roots embedded in reality. Forget about retelling the Krypton and
Smallville story, let's have Superman already established in Metropolis.
As you know, I don't read comics, so my thoughts on a story are limited.
The Brainiac story does appeal to me, but only if done seriously, too
easy to make it cartoony! I don't want the Death of Superman in the first
film, should be saved for potential sequels! A story featuring Jor-El
is some capacity could be explored in sequels. Who will play Superman? Tom Welling? He might not want to be typecast in the role. I honestly don't have any idea who can play the character. I'm guessing the person will have to be unknown. As for Lex Luthor, well, I think a big name will be cast and it will not be Kevin Spacey, I don't think he wants it. Lois Lane? Someone mentioned that Jennifer Connelly is being sought after for the role (heard on the radio). As for Special Effects, continuity is preferred, MillFilm seems an obvious choice as the majority worked on the Reeve films - it only makes sense to have them onboard. Pinewood is the best place to shoot all the exterior material whilst New York or a similar skyscraper city should be used. Let's hope the WB backlot isn't used, it looks so fake! Jon Peters, how he is still Executive Producer is beyond me, probably the biggest threat to Superman! Go back to hairdressing!!! This guy wants Superman in basketball pants! Wants Superman to have a Batman-type vehicle and apparently a robot side-kick?
