My search, unfortunately, began with frustrating and unsatisfying telephone enquiries with both the Alberta Film Comission and the Calgary Tourism Board, in an ill fated attempt to aquire exact location names. The former party offered to research my enquiry, calling me back with already known trivia ( such as the general statement that Calgary was used for filming Superman III), while the latter party made it immediately clear that "We don't research that kind of information" which, quite frankly, is an inacceptable response from an organisation specialising in the pride and public relations of the young city. It was therefore fairly obvious at this point to assess the information currently available. The city of Calgary, the tiny town of High River and Drumheller up North in the prairies were all locations photographed in the two movies. So where to start? The town hall of High River. After contact with the town hall receptionist, it was recommended to phone the High River Chamber of Commerce. Greeting my questions was the reply of a very enthusiastic, well informed and hugely helpful staff member with a passion and pride for her work and community. Immediately located was the farmhouse that doubled for Lana Lang's own home in Superman III, as well as news regarding an exhibit on the filming at High River's museum. I'd like to thank those individuals from the High River Chamber of Commerce for their wonderful support and construction of a site map listing of all of the town's locations. I will also be posting an on-line letter to the Alberta Film and Calgary Tourist Boards in the future. As for now- let's explore Alberta of 2002!
