DVD SIGNING

James: Arndt

I wanted to tell you, I gave the letter you sent me to Richard Donner personally. I was shocked that they let fans chat with him for a minute or two. I presented the letter and told him it was from your website: Superman CINEMA and it was a letter from fans around the world. I was sooo nervous, I didn't know what to say. I told him that I hope he would work on his version of Superman II. At that point, Tom Mankiewicz chuckled and said: "I hope so too!" I looked back at Donner and smiled and told him "Thank you for Superman!" They both smiled and then I handed him the two items to sign. One was a copy of the DVD plus a mylar poster Superman: The Movie poster. He commented that he never saw a poster of this type before and thought it was neat.

I then asked if I could have my picture taken with him and he very nicely said yes. I again thanked and shake his hand and Tom's. Really a nice guy, both of them! I'm so happy I met them One of my dreams came true! Thier was a surprise person there as well. The actor who played Superman as a child. The actors name escapes me. The scene when the boy lifts the truck. He was there as a surprise guest. Nice guy and I got his autograph too. I would like to mention that the owner of the store was shocked that so many people showed up. The line was around the block. I talked to the manager and asked if Donner knew of the turn out. She said that he and Tom were both very happy for the turn out. I got there at 5:30pm and stood and waited in line till 8pm when I finally met Donner. It was worth it! Inside the store was all the posters from the films plus they were playing all the films on large screens and sound systems. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. So many people love the films and we all talked and there was a definite vibe of friendship and love for the films in the air.

Donner and Tom looked good. Donner looked very tan. I also told Donner that I wanted to be a film director because of his movie and I felt as if dreams come true, it started with his movie. He remarked: "Believe in yourself and you'll make it!" I smiled and thank him again. I hope Donner reads the letter and you get some sort of reply. It was my pleasure to do this for you, I have enjoyed your website so much, I can't express. It does sadden me that it will be no more in the future, but you have done an amazing job and I wish you were there to have met Richard Donner and Tom Mankiewicz. You more than deserve the honor of meeting them! I also found out that there still might be another chance to meet Donner again. The dvd to The Goonies comes out this summer and the manager is in talks with the manager of Donner's to get him to be there for a signing of that dvd. She said he was very impressed with the fans and wants to do it again! I hope that happens.

Rob Chatlin:

I just got back for the Donner signing event. There was a very nice sized crowd, snaking out the doors of Dave's Video and down several blocks of Ventura Blvd. The line moved slow, but steady, but the store had nice 16x9 monitors playing both Superman I and II. The footage looked great, the colors super crisp, but the sound was too low to appreciate. After about an hour in line we were ushered one at a time to a table with Donner, Tom Manckiewicz, and, as we were told, the young actor who played baby Clark in the film. The purchase of the DVD got you two autographs, so I have the DVD and well as an original Superman The Movie poster autographed by the pair.

I asked Donner if we would ever see his Superman II footage, and he kinda joked about talking to the studio. The question, though, got him and Tom talking... "remember the great stuff of Brando. And of Margot?" Then I was pushed aside for the next lucky fan. They were both nice, seemed very happy to be there, and were staying well past the original hour long signing. They took time for some pictures, and I'm sure a question or two from everyone in attendance. As I left, the line outside seemed just as long as when I went in.
