Using the original LaserDisc chapters as a guide, the following is a list of where the extra scenes are added.

 

  • 18. TWELVE YEARS LATER: THE EMERGENCE OF SUPERMAN
  • 19. METROPOLIS 1978: THE DAILY PLANET --EXV1 & EXV2
    a)
    A birds' eye view of Metropolis, New York (this can be seen in the opening credits of "Superman II").

  • 20. CLARK KENT, MILD-MANNERED REPORTER --all extended versions
    a) After Clark settles down for his first day of work, we see more of Lois Lane, another reporter named Gil Treason meeting Clark, and Jimmy Olson handing Clark a towel.
  • 21. THE PURSE SNATCHER: FASTER THAN A SPEEDING BULLET --EXV1 & EXV2
    a) At the end of the scene, we see Clark and Lois boarding a taxi for lunch.

  • 22. LEX LUTHOR'S UNDERGROUND DIGS --EXV1 & EXV2
    a) As the taxi moves off, Otis is introduced, few minutes have been restored to this scene.
    b) Longer sequence of the cops following Otis through the streets and in the station.
    c) More of Otis' bumbling exploits, and we get to see Lex Luthor's face for the first time when he utters the line, "..enough power to keep those legs moving".
    d) Almost the entire cue from "Lex Luthor's Lair" from the soundtrack has been reinstated.
    e) After the line "What more can anyone ask?", we see Lex serenating Eve Teschmacher on the piano while Otis has the distinct honor of "feeding the babies" out of the pit.[ DVD deleted scene ]

  • 23. LOIS LANE, A HELICOPTER, AND SUPERMAN --EXV1 & EXV2
    a) A few seconds extra footage of the helicopter approaching the Daily Planet building.

  • 24. THE EXPLOITS OF THE MAN OF STEEL
    a)
    A female reporter and a cameraman looking up to the skies.--EXV1 & EXV2
    b) Short extended sequence with Superman above Metropolis. --EXV1 & EXV2
    c) An extension of the armed robber climbing the building, as a businessman barely notices inside. Another cut back to Superman flying and banking to the left. --EXV1 & EXV2
    d) An extension of the little girl begging her cat to come off a tree and how Superman reminds her not to be so hard on the cat named "Frisky". --EXV1 & EXV2
    e) An extension of the Air Force One sequence where the crew prepares to make their report to Air Traffic Control while cracking while jokes about peanuts and making references to their passenger, President Jimmy Carter.--EXV1 & EXV2
    f) After the "Air Force One" scene but before we return to Metropolis, Christopher Reeve and Marlon Brando are seen together in one sequence. This is where Superman talks with his father about his "first night", and how Jor-El warns him to keep secret his identity.--EXV1 & EXV2, slightly edited for EXV3
    g) Returning to Metropolis, during the scene where we see the news reports, we get a cameo from Richard Donner as a man on the street talking with Clark Kent about Superman.--all extended versions
    h) An extension of Lex' digs including more bumbling moments with Otis and Eve. It ends with Otis taking care of Lex' soiled robe.--EXV1 & EXV2
    i) After Mr. White orders his reporters to "get on that story", Jimmy talks with a copy boy about  the Daily Planet's motto ("A good reporter doesn't get great stories..."), but the Chief orders him to get a cup of black coffee, no sugar.--EXV1 & EXV2

  • 27. CAN YOU READ MY MIND? (Lois' soliloquy) :
    When we return to Luthor's lair, we hear added dialogue between Otis and Eve about Superman not drinking and smoking.--EXV1 & EXV2

  • 28. THE GREAT GUIDED MISSILE CAPER--this has been extended dramatically.
    a)
    Extra scenes of the green car (both from the inside and outside of the car) driving remotely down the road, and it passes the Danforth Missile base sign before coming within viewing distance of Otis and Lex.--EXV1 & EXV2
    b) Lex reminds Otis he is guiding the car on the wrong side of the road.--EXV1 & EXV2
    c) Eve prepares for her feigning an accident.--EXV1 & EXV2
    d) More of Larry Hagman's role as the Major.--EXV1 & EXV2
    e) extension of Lex communicating with the Major.--EXV1 & EXV2
    f ) Lex reminds Eve "You've done very well"--EXV1 & EXV2
    g)  More of Lex' "long arm".--EXV2
    h) Outside of Danforth Missile base's entrance (where the helicopter flies over) Otis, Lex, and Eve have parked the ambulance and talk about Otis going back and fixing the co-ordinates on the rocket, and dialogue about the other XK-101 rocket.--EXV2
    i) extensive footage of the trucks carrying the missile.--EXV2
    j) Otis and Lex are shown inside the cab of the truck talking before they stop and get out to talk with the Navy soldiers. The dialouge involves Otis still wanting to go back and fix his mistake, he offers Lex a piece of his chocolate bar, and Lex says, "How would you like the experience of being thrown from a moving vehicle?". --EXV2
    k) Extension of Otis and Lex and the truck drivers blocking the road.--EXV1 & EXV2
    l) An extension of Jimmy surveying Boulder Dam, then segues to a longer introduction between Lois Lane and the Indian Chief.--EXV2

  • 29. AN INVITATION FROM LEX LUTHOR
    a)
    When Superman "swirls" his way underground, we have one of the most talked-about additions to the film...Superman's test in the lair. Lex first tests the Man of Steel with bullets, then with fire, and finally with ice. Remember what Otis said earlier in the film ("Fire and bullets can't hurt this guy...") --all extended versions

  • 30. THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY (and how it works)
    a)
    In the theatrical/video version, it would have begun with Lex smiling and winking at the audience after his line "...by causing the death of innocent people".--EXV1 & EXV2
    b) an extension of the countdown to the missile launch.--EXV1 & EXV2
    c) After Lex points out "Target Zero" on the map, we see Lois dropping the Indian Chief off at his reservation in New Mexico, promising him that she and his friends will get to the bottom of everything.--EXV2
    d) during the first Missile Control scene after the line "Get me the Pentagon", we get an extension where we see the Pentagon being contacted, followed by a scene in the golf course where an agent alerts the President to danger. This scene is referred to in the closing credits of ALL versions of the film.--EXV1 & EXV2

  • 31. SUPERMAN TRAPPED --EXV1 & EXV2
    a)
    More of the control room in Lex' lair as half-witted Otis hands his boss a handful of peanuts.
    b) An extension of Superman and Eve in the pool (dialogue has been added that helps to explain her mother's sad fate).

  • 32. CHASING A GUIDED MISSILE --EXV1 & EXV2
    a)
    additional footage of Lois driving through the desert.
    b) Missile Control notices the second missile headed for New Jersey.
    c) as the first missile flies over a woman taking care of her laundry, Superman sees the missile coming toward him, but the missile flies right past him and Superman goes after it.
    d) extension of Superman hurdling the first missile into space.
    e) The entire first part of the cue "Chasing Rockets" as heard on the soundtrack CD is presented

  • 33. A LUTHOR-MADE EARTHQUAKE
    a)
    The rest of the first part of the "Chasing Rockets" cue (up to the gas station sequence) is heard; this will segue into the complete version of "Superfeats" (as heard on the soundtrack CD).--EXV1 & EXV2
    b) Extension of the gas station blowing up, with some alternate shots not seen in the theatrical print.--EXV1 & EXV2
    c) Extensions of Superman in the San Andreas fault.--all extended versions
    d) The Hollywood sign begins to fall on a group of Girl Scouts.--all extended versions

    a) Extensions of inside the Amtrak train.

    Extension of the Golden Gate Bridge disaster, including a man on a motorcycle being killed.

    d) Resolutions of the Girl Scouts and small houses predicaments.

  • 35. THE COLLAPSE OF BOULDER DAM --EXV1 & EXV2

    Extensions of Jimmy hanging on for life on Boulder Dam.
    b) Extension of the Power Plant scene, ending with the victims noticing that Superman has saved them.
    c) After Superman has saved Jimmy, the young photographer takes pictures of the collapsed dam.
    d) Extensions and alternate shots of the small town citizens running for their lives after the dam collapse.
    e) Jimmy is seen running through the desert.
    f) More of the "Superfeats" cue as heard on the soundtrack CD.

  • 36. LOIS BURIED ALIVE --EXV1 & EXV2

    e) Water flows through the New Mexico reservation of the Indian Chief, whom Lois had interviewed

    [ Most of the music cue where Lois is buried alive is absent from the extended prints ]

  • 37. SUPERMAN'S ANGUISH: TURNING BACK TIME --EXV1 & EXV2
    a)
    After Superman saves Lois, the young reporter says, "We're sort of alike, aren't we...our word comes first".
    b) After Superman flies away, Jimmy jokingly calls for a tow truck.
    c) Jimmy takes pictures of Lois, little realizing he has run out of film.
    d) back at Lex' lair, Mr. Luthor performs "You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby" while Eve is being fed to the "babies", but then Superman comes to save her, and in the process resolving the fate of Eve's mother in Hackensack, New Jersey. [ DVD deleted scene ]
