Abbreviations:

Using the original LaserDisc chapters as a guide, the following is a list of where the extra scenes are added.

 

  • 1. PROLOGUE: METROPOLIS 1938
  • 2. OPENING CREDITS
  • 3. THE PLANET KRYPTON
  • 4. THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS: JOR-EL DENOUNCES ZOD

  • 5. JOR-EL'S WARNING - All extended cuts

  • [ In the THV, we hear Jor-El's line "You cannot ignore these facts..." In all extended versions, this line is not present.]
    a) Jor-El gazes on the revolving center circles while 1st Elder (Trevor Howard) thanks Jor-El for his masterful handling of the prior incident and explains the prison on which the three "Rebel Elements" were sent (The Phantom Zone).
    b) 1st Elder lauds Jor-El as one of "Krypton's greatest scientists".
    c) A brief alternate take of Vond-ah's (Maria Schell) introductory line ("It isn't that I question your data...")
    d) When the Council gathers together in a bunch, 1st Elder warns Jor-El of the fate he will suffer for his "act of insurrection".

  • 6. PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE
    a) On the EXV1 & EXV2 soundtrack of the sequence that introduces Lara (Susannah York), we hear music that was recorded for, but left out of, the theatrical print.
    b) A futuristic-type security officer called The Executioner makes his report to the Council regarding the "energy input to Jor-El's quarters" which leads the Council to believe Jor-El is carrying out his "act of insurrection". This leads the Council to send the officer to hunt and kill Jor-El. --All extended versions
    c) The next scene, in which Jor-El makes his final soliloquy to his son, has a few seconds added to the beginning of the sequence, and we can hear the music cue for this in its entirety (from "Destruction Of Krypton") which was shortened for the theatrical print.--EXV1 & EXV2
    d)The next section has some music and about thirty seconds of bits and pieces of footage restored. It starts out with The Executioner (seen from his point-of-view) approaching Jor-El's quarters, then we see a few extra moments of the Council reacting to the earthquake that will destroy the planet. The next added shot is the death of the Executioner as a boulder falls on him.--EXV1 & EXV2
    e) On the soundtrack the remainder of the "Destruction Of Krypton" cue (from the soundtrack CD) can be heard as it would have been used in the film. This cue ends as the ship breaks through the ceiling.--EXV1 & EXV2

  • . 7. 1948: THE DESTRUCTION OF KRYPTON --EXV1 & EXV2
    a)
    After we see Jor-El and Lara watching the space ship take off, we see another shot of Kal-El's ship departing Krypton.
    b) Bits and pieces of restored footage of Krypton's destruction can be seen in numerous places.
    c) More unused music (from "Star Ship Escapes") can be heard throughout the sequence.
    d) When Krypton explodes, we hear a drum roll and crashing of cymbals on the soundtrack. This bit, originally meant to underscore the explosion, wasn't used either the THV or EXV3, but it can be found at the tail end of the "Superfeats" cue on the soundtrack CD.

  • 8. KAL-EL'S JOURNEY TO EARTH
    a)
    As Kal-El's ship passes through space, the Phantom Zone villains are seen for the final time. Zod and company beg Kal-El to stop, but the small ship keeps on going.--runs full-length in EXV1 & EXV2; slightly edited for EXV3

  • 9. 1951--THE KENTS FIND A CHILD
    a)
    When we first see the Kents, we hear the final note of "The Trip To Earth" cue as it would have been found in the theatrical print.--all extended versions
    b) As Pa Kent looks upon the baby Clark Kent, an additional line of dialogue is added ("Something very strange about that boy...you saw him just as plain as I did, Martha...")--EXV1 & EXV2
    c) At the end of the sequence, the Kents drive away as the light on Kal-El's ship turns dark.--EXV1 & EXV2

  • 10. CLARK KENT--TEENAGER  --EXV1 & EXV2
    a)
    Lana Lang practicing with the other cheerleaders
    b) Lana Lang praises Clark as "the nicest guy in the whole school".
    c) Lana and the group make fun of "Bad taste, Bad Brad".

  • 11. RACING WITH A TRAIN
    a)
    Additional material with Mrs. Lane (Noel Neill) and her daughter, the young Lois Lane.--EXV1 & EXV2
    b) The speaking roles of Mr. Lane (Kirk Alyn), Mrs. Lane (Noel Neill), and the young Lois are restored.--all extended versions
    c) More footage of Lana and the group riding through Smallville.--EXV1 & EXV2
    d) The entire Growing Up cue (found on the original double LP and Rhino soundtracks) is restored.--EXV1 & EXV2
    [ The THV used Bill Haley and The Comets' Rock Around The Clock replaced for EXV1 & EXV2 with original source music by John Williams.]

    a)
    Expanded sequence where the teenage Clark Kent walks through the barn and discovers the crystal.

    a)
    A sequence where Ma Kent opens the blinds, takes out the Cheerios box, and calls Clark for breakfast.

  • 16. JOURNEYING NORTH --EXV1 & EXV2
    a)
    More of Clark's journey to the North Pole while the "Fortress Of Solitude" music repeats to pad out the longer time.
    b) The construction of the Fortress is extended.
    c) Clark walking into the Fortress. --EXV1 & EXV2

  • 17. THE FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE: TRAVELING THROUGH TIME AND SPACE --EXV1 & EXV2
    a) Some of Marlon Brando's dialogue has been restored, explaining why Jor-El has to answer Clark Kent's questions in the order of their importance.
