INTRODUCTION

For a number of die-hard fans of STM, Superman 2 isn't exactly a love affair. Why you ask? Richard Donner.

Donner's dismissal disappointed a lot of people - majority of the cast and crew on the production and the fans. Superman CINEMA is a strong supporter of Donner's vision, but we do have the Lester fans - I think most will agree that Superman wasn't his thing and it clearly shows in part 3.

I want to try and wade through the ambiguity and present facts, some rumours and speculation during and before the Superman production and especially the months between December 1978 and July 1979. The aim of this document is to make the whole thing much clearer to you.

A few publications have taken a stab at figuring out why Donner was fired, but none have given the real reason. DVDFILE was at the STM DVD press junket, the question was raised but there was no clear answer. For this ambitious article, I've used quotes, past articles and my own intuition to piece together the complex jigsaw. I assure you that everything here has been checked with various articles from today and yesteryear. Someone from the set has provided some interesting details, but I decided not to use their name. Will you be satisfied? Will you be angry? Will you understand? Let's find out.
